About College

Gadhada is a taluka headquarter, 25 km away from the main headquarter of the Swaminarayan sect, the district headquarter, Botad and 85 km from Bhavnagar district. There was an education facility only up to the 12th standard till the year 2012. A college facility for higher education was located 25 km distant in Botad. However, out of the 72 villages of Gadhada taluka, very few students went to Botad after 12th standard. Most of the girls did not receive higher education as they had to go from their village to Gadhada and then from Gadhada to Botad. Gradually, Government took a welcome decision to start a college at the taluka level. Under this, it was decided to open colleges in Talaja, Gariyadhar, Ghogha, Vallabhipur, and Gadhada talukas of the Bhavnagar district. Thus, fortunately for the students of Gadhada who are deprived of higher education due to lack of facilities, on 15 December 2012, a government college was started in Gadhada under the acting principalship of Dr. Jignesh Upadhyay.

Initially, the college did not have its premises. From 2012 to 2018, Government Arts and Commerce College was run in Gadhada's historic M.M. high school premises. The academic work of the college took place in the high school premises for five and a half years. Meanwhile, the process of acquiring the land for the college and then its construction was completed. The college was inaugurated by Chief Minister Mrs. Anandiben Patel. During the in charge/Acting Principal Prof. Bhavin Badiyani's tenure, the college got its state-of-the-art building and in 2018, the Government Arts and Commerce College started functioning in its independent building under the name Bhaktraj Dada Khachar Arts and Commerce College.

A grand inauguration ceremony of the college was held. The college was inaugurated at the hands of the Education Minister Shri Bhupendrasinhji Chudasma in the presence of a large group of the local public. Respecting the public sentiment, the name of Gnanpipasu/ knowledge seeker Dada Khachar and a unique devotee of Lord Sahajananda Swami, was associated with the name of the college in the inauguration ceremony. Thus, in the new building of the college, the work of education of the students started in the benchless classes. Gradually, teachers were appointed by the Gujarat Public Service Commission in both the arts and commerce branches, a rich library was prepared and the institution began to grow as a thriving center of learning. Then, benches and other basic facilities became available in the college during the tenure of the Acting/ in charge Principal Dr. Janakkumar Gadhvi. The institution is doing great work in the fields of education, literature, art, sports, and service. The 'National Service Scheme (NSS) unit in the organization is also active for the public service.

The government of Gujarat had formed a committee of 35 professors of the state who went to England to study the education system there. Dr. Tejas Gandhi, assistant professor (Commerce) from our college was one among the 35 professors as representative of the college. Prime Minister, Shri Narendrabhai Modi paid a special visit to the professors after they visited England.

In the field of sports, under the guidance of PTI Chandrakant Gohel, the students of the institute have become winners at the national level. Even at the university level, faculty members of various subjects are rendering their noble service. College has highly qualified faculty members selected by Gujarat Public Service Commission, most of them have qualified NET/SLET exams and more than 80% faculty members have Ph.D/M.Phil. Most of them are active members of Board of studies in their specific subjects. Consequently, they are playing active role in designing the relevant courses according to the current needs.

Recently, the Gujarat Public Service Commission has also appointed a permanent principal in the institution. Under the principalship of Dr. Himmatbhai Senjaliya, the institute is currently working to scale new horizons of education and the overall development of rural students.
